About Us

UCT was formed in December 2007 following the decision of Alfred McAlpine to discontinue their ‘Training Services’ business. Our objectives are simple;

• To be the leading training provider in our sector

• To offer quality training and assessment provision at a competitive rate

• To deliver first class customer service

• To maximise benefits to employers and learners through selective partnerships

• To provide expert information, knowledge and guidance to the Utility and Construction sectors

UCT is accredited with a wide range of award bodies, including City & Guilds, Construction Alliance Awards, CABWI, IOSH and Matrix. UCT works closely with the industry’s Sector Skills Councils, EU Skills within utilities and Construction Skills within the construction sector.

Through its network of in house sites and strategic partnerships, UCT offers a national footprint, providing training for the multi-utility and construction industries, to a range of major blue chip multi-national companies through to self-employed contractors.

UCT has established its first training centre in Carrington, Manchester (head office) and additional office facilities in Scotland. We work with partner organisations throughout the UK to use existing quality training facilities to meet employer need. We offer a high degree of expertise and in-depth knowledge across the spectrum. Our team of trainers and assessors has substantial combined experience in gas, water, electricity, and generic elements such as health and safety, new roads and street works, and plant training.

UCT head office is well equipped with a heated workshop and is able to deliver training for:

• Water Distribution

• Gas Distribution

• Electrical Distribution

• Abrasive Wheels

• New Roads and Streetworks

• Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification

There are three permanent lecture rooms available for training or meetings, and up to a further 6 rooms are available to hire on a daily basis, with shared canteen facilities for refreshments and lunch.
